Digital Transformation

Innovation, a cross-cutting process

For Rai Way, innovation is a cross-cutting process that involves every part of the Organisation.

With this in mind, the Company is pursuing a comprehensive Digital Transformation programme that concerns not only platforms and infrastructures but, above all, people. The success of this journey does not depend solely on adopting enabling technologies, but also on the ability to promote and enhance the cultural change they entail.

Digital transformation at Rai Way in 3 points:

Preventive and predictive maintenance, alongside traditional maintenance, to support Operations activities

Platforms that support all company processes, with a focus on simplifying work and improving efficiency

Digital training to accompany the cultural shift towards digitalisation

Predictive maintenance for plants

Rai Way manages the maintenance of transmission and broadcasting equipment and the related electrical systems at its 2,300 sites through preventive maintenance with planned inspections.

Over the last years, new predictive maintenance solutions new predictive maintenance solutions have been introduced, which are beginning to complement more traditional management methods: the aim is to anticipate any breakdowns and prepare the most appropriate intervention.,

By integrating IoT sensors and correlated data analysis—with continuous automatic measurements—we monitor essential environmental characteristics of sites and machines such as temperature, pressure, humidity, dust, ventilation and changes in ambient noise. This approach enables innovative maintenance management that can predict potential issues and required interventions, extend equipment lifecycles, moderate energy consumption and deliver higher-quality services.

The project, currently under way at several pilot sites, will be extended to 200 stations by 2026.

Predictive maintenance: a more effective, efficient and sustainable model.

New BSS & OSS platforms for digital transformation

Two innovative, fully cloud-based ecosystems are profoundly transforming the way Rai Way operates, boosting competitiveness and operational efficiency.

BSS platforms (Business Support System)—already in operation—form an integrated application ecosystem for managing all management, administrative, financial and commercial aspects of Rai Way’s activity, including:

  • customer and supplier management
  • asset management
  • accounting
  • procure-to-pay
  • workforce management and field operations
  • demand and ticketing management
  • business intelligence
  • treasury
  • corporate and regulatory compliance

The OSS (Operational Support System) platform enables the control of infrastructures and assets through the integration of a cloud-based platform, distributed edge computing nodes, and the physical network with sensors, probes, and monitoring systems installed on towers and sites.

This solution provides a holistic view of the network, improves internal process efficiency and enables innovative services for the future.

Dedicated to overseeing critical technological systems, the OSS platform ensures:

  • centralised network monitoring
  • alarm collection
  • accounting and identity management of equipment

Training: a catalyst for digital transformation

Rai Way has embarked on a cultural transformation by structuring a Digital Learning Plan designed to connect a mapping of key future technological and business challenges with the development and enhancement of internal skills.

Training is a strategic lever to support and accelerate digital transformation.
