Quality Control
Guaranteed quality with our monitoring services

Services for the quality and safety of broadcast signals

We continuously verify the performance of our broadcast networks through automatic monitoring systems, field checks, and mobile measurements. This structured activity allows us to detect interference, assess coverage, ensure regulatory compliance, and guarantee the highest quality of broadcast service.

Light Network: 50 continuous monitoring stations

We check end-user reception quality via our “light network”, a monitoring system made up of 50 fixed stations distributed across the country.
Through this network, we detect events related to the service provided by the broadcasting systems in the coverage area. Monitoring is carried out in different ways:

  • continuously
  • on a spot basis
  • at pre-set time intervals.

Together with data from other company systems, this allows us to:

Monitoring Rai Way and private broadcasters

Assess Key Performance Indicators

In addition to routine measurement activities, we also use the network for experimental analyses and specific studies and as support for plant surveillance.

Quality control in the field

We constantly check the status of quality and the extent of coverage of our terrestrial broadcast networks. Our experts, located in regional offices, carry out the specific verification measurements.

Using mobile measurement laboratories and professional instrumentation; we cyclically visit about 27,000 verification points distributed throughout the country in order to minimise the number of checks necessary for an accurate verification of coverage.

Approx. 14,000 measurements per year for DVB-T, MF and DAB services

Rai Way technicians periodically check the status of mobile reception of MF, Isoradio and DAB radio services using quality measurements collected while in motion, using their own automated measurement systems.

On average, about 10,000 km of motorways, ring roads, expressways and roads within large cities are checked every year.

Interference monitoring

Quality control activities across the territory make it possible to assess the interference scenario. These checks concern the reception of signals broadcast by Rai Way’s sites, are carried out by technicians in the regional units, and make it possible to:

  • detect any worsening in the received signals caused by interference issues
  • prepare the necessary actions to restore correct reception, involving the parties concerned and, where appropriate, liaising with the competent authorities (MIMIT)

Monitoring of electromagnetic impact limits

We strictly observe the limits imposed by legislation for the protection of the population and workers with respect to electromagnetic emissions. In order to systematically and adequately monitor the impact produced by our facilities, we oversee the issue at several levels, including:

  • NIR impact assessment during plant design and commissioning phase
  • emission monitoring
  • remedial measures
  • zoning of workplaces
  • the provision of dosimeters to occupationally exposed personnel

These activities are governed by a set of internal procedures, compliance with which is verified as part of the Integrated Environment, Health and Safety Management System (ISO 14001:2015 certified, ISO 45001:2015 certified)
